United States of America (USA) became superpower partly because of its major share in defense equipment sale globally and it enjoyed the status of superpower as not many countries were there to challenge and substitute the USA defence equipment supremacy. Now word order is changing and at least half dozen countries are challenging and designing defence equipment meeting the same efficacy at lower price for sale in the global market. Russia was earlier seen as the only challenger of USA in the cold war period mostly because west block countries were aligned with USA and they were part of NATO. But now half dozen countries are challenging USA supremacy in Geopolitics.
Of late, Countries like Israel, France, Germany and United Kingdom, India and China have come in forefront challenging the monopoly of defence equipment sale of USA in the global market. Now USA is finding it hard to keep its hold in the market of arms sale. In the recent conflict of India – Pakistan, USA was feeling alienated and it felt offended when DRDO designed Akash missile intercepted and destroyed Chinese fighter jet along with F-16. This scared both USA and China and raised question mark on the performance of their premium Defence product.
In this conflict, India cornered gulf countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran and few others when they approached New Delhi and they wanted to mediate in the conflict. This is first time Indian Foreign policy was found robust enough when the voice of powerful Islamic countries was ignored. There was time Congress led UPA government was closely synchronised with the Islamic countries voice and they never dared to ignore the voice of Islamic countries in the name of secularism to keep their voting constituency pleased.
USA realized the ramification of news of performance of Akash and Brahmo Missile and realized there will be more buyers of Akash and Brahmo missile than premium jets like F-16 and F-35 and this may impact USA dearly. Brahmo is supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by Indian Defence R&D wing (DRDO) and Russia and “Akash” is an indigenous product of DRDO. Both the missile systems are getting traction in the 3rd world countries. Brahmo is supposed to be the fastest and precise accuracy missile in its class and Akash proved its mettle in the current conflict beyond imagination. Pakistan Air Defence System mostly supplied by China collapsed and failed completely. This made both USA and China nervous. President Donald Trump do not want more loss of F-16 in Pakistan and other equipment supplied to Pakistan as it will erode its credibility in Arms market and this is one of the reasons USA stepped up in the name of diplomacy and negotiated ceasefire.
China felt cornered and got upset with Pakistan after USA negotiated ceasefire, because Pakistan is breathing mostly on Chinese money. China dictated Pakistan for violation of ceasefire and it truly reflected on the ground. China has not been in war since long it needs to test all its equipment and find the present conflict an easy opportunity to test and validate the performance of its fighter jets, missiles and other warfare equipment.
Russia is an all-weather friend of India, and it is already upset with Pakistan as Pakistan secretly sold bombs to Ukraine and made more than 250 million dollars. On the other hand, India bought Oil from Russia in spite of the opposition by USA and European Union Countries and this helped Russian economy to stabilize the turbulent time of Russia-Ukraine war. French Rafale is a measure threat as a competitor to USA. Donald Trump already has unbalanced its relationship with European Union countries on the matter of NATO and trade. Now European Union Countries are persuading more business relationship with India for their survival. India already became the 4th largest economy of the world and by 2028 to 2030 it is slated to be the 3rd largest economy of the world. No one can afford to ignore India as India is marching as economic and military superpower.
Now the question is what next? It is anticipated that: – 1. Russia will support India irrespective of the support of other countries in the present conflict if it takes shape of a formal war, 2. USA may find cornered as the present government of India will follow its own independent foreign and Defence Policy, 3. Some of the African countries who have ordered Chinese Defence equipment may cancel the deal and they may move to India for procurement of better and smart defence equipment, 4. France, Germany and United Kingdom will come more closer to India for cooperation of joint defence production and support, 5. There may be a formal India-Pakistan war and this will lead to partition of Pakistan into 3 parts. Eventually Baluchistan will get free, and India may acquire Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). 6. India will invest more and more on Defence R&D and promote private participation for manufacturing of Defence equipment and for sure by 2030 India may occupy a major share in Defence equipment market globally. – SK Singh (Image courtesy Google)
