Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule held meeting Nagpur Police Bhawan regarding riots that occurred in the city. After this meeting CM Devendra Fadnavis said, “In Maharashtra, we take action in our own way. Wherever a bulldozer is needed, it will be used. Wrongdoings will be crushed. No one will be spared.

Large-scale stone pelting and arson were reported in several parts of Nagpur on March 17 over rumours that a “chadar” with holy inscriptions was burnt during protests led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) seeking the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb, which is in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. The fake narrative was spread by Fahim Shamim Khan in order to mobilize lumpen elements.
Links between the Nagpur riots and #Bangladesh has been uncovered by the Nagpur Police. As many as 97 fake news social media posts were identified, many originating from Bangladeshi IP addresses. The police have found links to a Facebook account, from where a threat had been issued to create riots.
The Nagpur police have identified around 200 individuals with links to the riots or rumour mongering and efforts are on to identify 1,000 more. The police have formed 18 teams to strengthen the operations.
